TEAK

ZIMBABWEAN TEAK IS HIGHLY RESISTANT TO ABRASION AND IS EXTREMELY SUITED FOR ALL FLOORING APPLICATIONS WHERE STRENGTH AND DURABILITY ARE REQUIRED.

It makes a highly decorative hard-wearing floor, wears smoothly under all conditions of pedestrian traffic and is very stable under varying conditions of humidity and temperature.

The Heartwood is chestnut brown in colour and matures to a rich and attractive dark red colour.

The Sapwood is pale cream in colour and matures to a delicate pink, blending in with the dark red of the Heartwood. If both Heartwood and Sapwood are combined in the same product the mixture of colour is called “Savannah”.

Baikiaea Plurijuga has a very high degree of resistance to abrasion and weighs an average of 920kg/m3 at 10% moisture content. It has a hardness rating of 15930 N on end surface and 13455 N on side grain, which is more than double that of European Oak and Ash. It has a maximum shearing strength parallel to the grain of 16N/mm2.
